Hi Zach
If I recall Michael did an extensive review in an older Audyssey issue
about Nethack. If I recall it said something about changing a file to make
the walls and such appear as asky symbols. Not sure if this is the exact
answer you need but hope it helps you out.
Happy New Year
Ron

Subject: [Audyssey] Help with Roguelike games
Howdy,
I'm wondering if there are still any blind players out in the Internet
land that still play these games? They were featured quite prominantly in
the early issues of Audyssey, as were classics like Fallthru.
I've begun trying to play a game of Nethack, and have encountered a few
problems--possibly because it's for Windows console mode, and Window-Eyes
has a great deal of trouble with that sometimes.
The main problem I have is somewhat difficult to describe. But I'll try to
do it below:
Eessentially, blank spaces aren't being represented in the view of the
screen I get with the mouse. While the vast majority of any Nethack screen
is symbols, it is still not all a regular grid shape and thus hard to figure
out sometimes. Areas which are especially difficult include determining
when I've run into a wall versus hit a corridor, and determining which
direction corridors lead.
A somewhat related problem is that when I move the mouse cursor down a line
at a time, this doesn't stick in the same collumn, and thus telling exactly
where things are is extremely difficult, because I have to go across the
screen and try to count. Ugh.
Michael? Anybody more experienced than I? Care to shed some possible light
on how to deal with this?
Thanks,
Zack.
