[Audyssey] Anacreon Tips and a problem

Howdy,
    I'm trying to get back into Anacreon reconstruction again--I played the DOS version way back when, and still have it on my computer here.  Can even play it, with a little effort--(Thank you, Window-eyes!)
    However, with the new Windows version, I've noticed a very strange bug on my laptop, which doesn't seem to manifest on the PC at all.
    What happens is that the report screen, which is supposed to pop up at the beginning of every turn, simply doesn't.  It's as if it wasn't there at all, which it really doesn't seem to be.  The News window and the like don't come up either.  This tends to make the game extremely difficult to play well on my laptop, whereas on my PC I can manage it decently.  The funny thing is, that the DOS version plays well on my laptop but not my PC...
So...I've tried emailing George Moramasato about this, and gotten no response.  I was wondering if anyone either has:
A) A solution for this problem, (somehow).
Or perhaps, B) Tips for playing without the map in the DOS version?
